ADSP Follow-Up Study (FUS)

The HIHG is part of the Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project Follow-up Study (FUS) phase, funded by National Institute on Aging, along with three other university collaborators which include Drs. Vardarajan and Mayeux from Columbia University, Dr. Foroud from Indiana University and Dr. Wang and Schellenberg of the University of Pennsylvania.
The goals of the FUS are to extent efforts in the study of genetic risk factors for AD across different populations through the addition of ethnically diverse samples. This ethnic diversity was emphasized in the ‘ADSP Follow-Up Study (FUS) Phase’ planning stage with a directive that additional existing cohorts with unrelated AD cases that ‘encompass the richest possible ethnic diversity’ be given the highest priority for inclusion.
To this end AD research in ADSP will be expanded to study in African-American and pan-Hispanic population groups. These efforts run parallel and intersect with the HIHG in-house projects.
Dr. Pericak-Vance is the principal investigator of the Miami efforts for this study with Drs. Jeff Vance and Michael Cuccaro leading the clinical assessment and Drs. Eden Martin and Anthony Griswold the sequencing analyses. Dr. Pericak-Vance also leads the Miami team of the Collaboration on Alzheimer’s Disease REsearch performing the statistical analyses on these data of populations with diverse ancestries to identify novel and shared genetic factors.
